UnitedHealth Health Insurance Premium® programs help you choose the right doctor or hospital for you.   A 2005 study found that up to 83,000 deaths could have been prevented in the U.S. if not for quality gaps in health care while treating those patients.* 

The UnitedHealth Premium designation program and UnitedHealth Premium hospital comparison program 
give you the information you need to make informed decisions when choosing a doctor or hospital:

• The Premium designation program identifies physicians who follow evidence-based guidelines for quality of care.  Those doctors that meet the criteria for quality of care are assigned one star; if they also qualify for efficiency of care, they are assigned two stars.

• The Premium hospital comparison program evaluates hospitals based on major complication rates, mortality rates and patient safety processes for over 50 procedures. Scores are rated one to three stars, with three stars being the highest quality rating.  Relative cost is also indicated along with a dollar amount range for the specific procedure.
